Washington, D.C., August 13, 2019 — The Retail & Hospitality Information Sharing and Analysis Center (RH-ISAC) today announced John Carlin as the opening keynote speaker at the Retail Cyber Intelligence Summit taking place September 24-25, 2019, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Denver, Colorado. With his appearance last October on 60 Minutes and the publication of his book, Dawn of the Code War: America’s Battle Against Russia, China, and the Rising Global Cyber Threat, John is well versed to discuss the new state of risk in the age of internet of things (IoT), and the importance of collaboration among industries and teams to combat ever-increasing global cyber threats, in his session titled, “Navigating Global Cyber Threats.”
“We are beyond excited to have John speak at our event. His expertise and background will give our members a unique perspective into the current state of cyber threats,” Suzie Squier, president of the RH-ISAC, said. “Our event addresses the key challenges and issues facing strategic retail leaders and tactical practitioners at a critical time in our industries. We are looking forward to adding John to the conversation this year.”
John is the former assistant attorney general for the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) National Security Division (NSD), and currently chairs Morrison & Foerster’s Global Risk + Crisis Management practice and co-chairs the National Security practice, where he advises industry-leading organizations in sensitive cyber and other national security matters.
Prior to serving as the DOJ’s highest-ranking national security lawyer, John served as chief of staff and senior counsel to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III. Under his leadership, the NSD launched nationwide outreach across industries to raise awareness of national security, cyber and espionage threats against US companies and to encourage greater C-suite involvement in corporate cybersecurity matters. John also chairs the Aspen Institute’s Cybersecurity and Technology policy program, which provides a cross-disciplinary forum for industry, government and media to address the rapidly developing landscape of digital threats and to craft appropriate policy solutions.
